Bed and Breakfast near Beaune
A 'must see' is the medieval market town of Beaune where the famous wine auction is held every November in the "Hôtel Dieu'. Originally built as a hospital for the poor in 1441, this museum with its magnificent patterned tiled roof gives an excellent insight into the founding of this charitable establishment. Beaune is also home to the excellent Musée de Vin which charts the development of the wine industry in the region.
The Saturday morning market here is a perfect example of a French country market. Parasol topped stalls selling beautifully displayed fresh local fruit, olives, vegetables & flowers whilst the indoor 'halle' gives you a choice of local cheeses, saucissons, cured hams & breads. Shopping here is a real delight. The narrow pedestrian streets are home to a wide choice of wine shops, fashion boutiques and art galleries. Don't miss the wonderful cheese emporium, its décor hardly changed since the 19th century.
Beaune is a delightful town in which to wander the medieval streets , stroll round the ramparts & take in the atmosphere. Or simply enjoy a drink at one of the many pavement cafés and watch the world go by.
